‘White Water’ magazine was conceived in 1953 and was devoted to what paddlers knew about white water, the canoeing of rapid rivers, the zest for surfing, the sport of slalom and ‘fooling around’ below Thames weirs and was over seen by Bill Horsman (CPCC) as Editor between 1953 / 1955, 1956, 1960 / 1962 (22 Editions), Julian Shaw (MCC) would be editor 1957 / 1959 (12 Editions). Other Editors for brief periods (all from CPCC) were Cliff Dykins, Eric Taylor, Bill Emm and Chris Sutton (10 Editions between them)
In the Winter of 1963 / 1964 the magazine ceased publication with potential contributors too busy going canoeing
December 1965 the magazine was revived by Manchester Canoe Club members Maurice Rothwell, Ian Pendleton and John MacLeod, Ian Pendleton would be Editor between 1965 / 1973 (29 editions), during 1972 the magazine became the official magazine for ‘BCU Slalom and White Water racing Committee’. Vic Brown became Editor in 1973 / 1975 (9 editions). Stuart Fisher became the final editor for White Water magazine from 1975 /1982.
In the last Edition (November 1982) it was announced that to extend the life of the magazine it would require a larger audience, the approach was to change the name of the magazine to ‘Canoeist’ and would encompass all disciplines of canoeing not just white water, to ensure the same coverage for Slalom and WWR the new Canoeist magazine would be published monthly

January 1983 would see the first edition of the ‘Canoeist’ magazine being published, Stuart Fisher continued as Editor for this Magazine

A copy of every White Water magazine are held on the Chalfont Park Canoe Club (aka CPCC) website

As you may be aware, the Canoeing Results (also Canoeing Photos) website is currently funded by an individual member of the group. However, it has been suggested that the longevity of the site and the data held on the website would be ensured by setting up a donation facility, should anyone feel they wish to help with the costs incurred. The overheads involved in the maintenance of this site include: the purchase of a number of licences and the annual expenses required to run the two websites; the postage costs incurred regarding the collecting of data from individual contributors and the purchase of scanners and other software required for processing the data received.
